Kingdom of Zombie First Look: Introduction to.. something?

The story is about Van, a reckless boy full of innovations who works at local blacksmith's workshop. World is apparently filled with zombies but at least this village is free of them. Van is on his way to watch a gladiator tournament when he gets sudden assignment from unknown horseman (who seems a bit insincere) to deliver a letter to a gladiator of whom Van surprisingly is big fan of. Nothing special about simply delivering, but the gladiator happens to live behind garrison that protects the village: reckless as he is Van agreeds to deliver that letter. At the garrison something happens - guard is killed by an unknown character and gate is opened: masses of zombies begin flooding in. Something happens within Van and as he was just a moment before trembling in fear suddenly his expression changes: he wants to exterminate all of those who threaten his life.

Kingdom of Zombie has a pretty open-ended first chapter, which doesn't reveal much, but the series turn into something that I didn't expect. It gets a little bit more depth and more characters are introduced, however I still wasn't convinced. I'm holding the verdict that Kingdom of Zombie has some potential, but it definitely needs some good plot twists, character and plot development to rise something that would be truly enjoyable to read.
