One Piece managed to proceed for almost 400 chapters, which would make over 8 years since the beginning before Luffy's fighting power massively evolved. This turning point is known as gear 2, which had my heart pounding in excitement when I first read chapter 388.
Thank god One Piece wasn't made into a linear power up -adventure (like DBZ), Oda has done incredible job at surprising fans and keeping them satisfied by finding unique and interesting ways for character power ups.
