Hiro Mashima's RAVE Review: not bad

This is the Manga that is almost a "prequel" to Fairy Tail. It's Hiro Mashima's earlier work and you can see the resemblence especially in the characters compared to Fairy Tail.

So it all begins on this far away island, which doesn't have much people living on it. The story is telling a tale about boy name Haru who meets an old man Shiba who tells him about the war that happened 50 years ago. He tells about stones of light (Rave) and stones of darkness (Dark bring) and how these two kind of stones started the war. Raves and Dark Brings all have unique powers. He made a mistake and all the Raves that he had were scattered around the world. Long story short, Shiba was the previous Rave master, and now Haru has taken the task. This is where the journey begins.

I find it odd that Rave doesn't that much attention even now that Hiro Mashimas Fairy Tail has exploded with popularity. Rave is a decent read, but not that good that I would recommend it. It's art looks the same as every other manga that was runnin through early 2000's so nothing to complain there. Story is a stereotypical shonen so people who like Fairy Tail etc. shonens a lot may find Rave acceptable. It isn't bad, but it doesn't do anything exceptionally well. Characters don't stand out (even though there is a lot resemblence to Fairy Tail), so from my point of view the unique Rave powers are maybe the only one keeping readers interest piqued in this one.
