One Piece 696: Kaido of the hundred beasts

At the cover of this chapter we have Caribou holding meat pie and the text: "On the way to the port, some voices are calling: "Captain Gaburu!"

Finally we get to the chapter itself: Smoker is drawing the line between Strawhat pirates, this line is between evil and justice. Smoker managed to contact the G-5 base and they'll be waiting for the ship here.

Luffy's talking with Brownbeard, it seems that Brownbeard intents to get captured, he says that if the army captures them they can get cured and that a jail is still better than being played with by Caesar. We see Caesar, Buffalo and Baby 5 being captured and unconscious.

Thousand Sunny suffered some damage, one of it's masts got broken and Franky, helped by marines are pulling it back together.

Meanwhile Chopper is yelling that Law is a murderer! Brooke says that he's a murderer too: Kinemon was already dead but he broken him into pieces. Something happens, the "pieces" are cracking and Kinemon arises from the pieces, yelling. Sanji kicks him asking why is he alive.

So Kinemone is actually alive and then Momonosuke transforms from dragon to his human form, father and son hug. Momonosuke is introduces as "Wanokuni Kid", Kinemon conjures some clothes on him and then Momonosuke faints.

Trafalgar Law comes from inside the cabin, he just finished cutting up the childrens bodies. Chopper runs in and sees that the children are okay. The kids are calling Chopper a raccoon. Tashiki comes in and says that the marines will take care of them. Nami talks a little bit about them on the deck, how they should be saved by a strong marine woman.

At the same time Sanji is cooking some food, Newcomer Kenpou technique, 99 vital recipe! It's something that he learned to make in the span of those 2 years during time skip. It's Offal Soup with Sea Pig Meal! Finally, the food is served and we get a small scene with Kinemon and Momonosuke. It seems that they have some trust issues which we will be getting an explanation soon I hope. It smells a bit of foreshadowing also.

It's time for traditional after arc party, this is the time when weapons are put down for a while and even marines are willing to cease fire. Law is saying that they should leave in a hurry though.

At the end of chapter 696 we get a small flashback from when Luffy and Law were talking about which emperor they are going to take down. They intend to take down Kaido of the hundred beasts (or Kaidou of the 100 beasts).

Luffy says that he's going to take all of them down eventually. Awesome.

And so ends chapter 696 and the story will continue in 697.

Comments and Predictions

It was a good chapter as expected, even though we didn't get to see Doflamingo Donquixote or even the mysterious character which may be Aokiji. (Kuzan). At least we got to see Momonosukes human form even though I like his dragon form a lot more.

The miniflashback between Luffy and Law was great to see: so Kaido is called Kaidou of the hundred beasts, if he's name comes from making people zoans using Smiley I find it a bit wierd. It would be a lot cooler if the nickname would come from his powers.

I think these next chapters to come will be especially awesome since we most likely will get to see all the stuff that is happening around the world of One Piece. Maybe we'll get to see next chapter that when Strawhats leave the Punk Hazard, Donquixote Doflamingo may arrive along with the mystery character.  Hopefully marines manage to clear out before that happens, otherwise Buffalo, Baby 5 and Caesar will be saved by DD.

It's also possible that while the Strawhats make their leave they encounter either Donquixote Doflamingo or even the mystery character in 697.
