Onepunch-Man 22: Genos' Upgrade

Comments
This chapter was one of the boring ones: there was only an artistic approach showing Genos' hand prototype ugrape which was awesome by itself, but in span of one chapter essentially nothing happened.

What comes to the giant robot that passed Genos at the end of this chapter I believe it's just another hero who wants to prove himself by destroying the meteorite, but will most likely fail miserably. It would be suitable considering the flow of the manga so far.

One more thing that comes to mind is that it's the worst thing ever for this to be bi-weekly series. Even if I understand how much work goes into making such a great art, it's still a bit disappointing to have less than 39 chapters a year.

Recap of Onepunch-man 22 (or 24 as mangareader labels it):

-The meteor closing in is a disaster of "Dragon" level.

-People of Z-city are tying to evacuate

-Genos however is taking action, he's bouncing on top of the buildings holding a briefcase. He has some kind of prototype in it.

-He throws the briefcase onwards opening it and it turns out to be and hand prototype upgrade to Genos.

-He's determined to stop the metorite, but something passes him quickly: something that looks like a huge robot.

Onepunch-Man 23: Bang reminds me of Zeno

Recap and Comments of Onepunchman 21st attack: The Giant Meteorite

Saitama and Jenosu (translated as Genoss usually) are talking in Saitamas place, Jenosu is checking their rankings and Saitama's rank went from the worst rank 388th to the 342nd rank!
Go Saitama!

Saitama asks if Jenosu made any progress. Jenosu thinks that his real ability is around the 17th rank, but instead of that he's the worst rank of S-class. But according to polls taken by ordinary people his rank should be 6th rank.

Then we get the incredible work of art to which the title of this text points to, we are shown over for 11 double pages how a meteorite is approaching the earth. The details and the depth of the drawings is just amazing.

After that Jenosu gets a call from the hero organization and he has to go out for a while.

At the Hero Organistaion someone comes talking to Jenosu, he says that people call him Bang. Jenosu realizes that he's a rank 3 S-class hero and a genuine example of an inluential person.
As soon as I saw Bang he instantly reminded me of Zeno Zoldiyeck from Hunter x Hunter (HxH), I think that the author has been either consciously or unconsciously taken some characteristics of Zeno while creating Bang.

Bang explains that basically everyone has been evacuated and the are being pressed by a dragon level disaster: a meteor is approacing the earth as we knew already. In 35 minutes it will fall right there on Z-city.

Bang is basically saying that he called for Jenosu to help them since he himself doesn't want to evacuate because of him having roots there. He doesn't say it straightforwardly or the translation just sucks - it could also mean that when he shows off at the end with Ryuusui Gansai Ken he wants a duel with Jenos, but that doesn't make much sense.
Bang looks like a interesting character.

It wasn't as funny chapter as we've been used to having, but it was good nonetheless. Once again the art was top-notch and in the end this chapter ended up being more like a setup chapter for future awesomeness. I'm eager to see will rank 3 S-class hero Band somehow crumble under the meteorite or something, but one thing's for sure:
Saitama will be saving the day in the end no one seeing it and he will stay at the bad rank compared to Jenoss. The most probable scenario is that Jenoss actually manages to by some mistake get the credit for destroying the meteorite, so funny stuff incoming I believe.

Onepunch-Man Extra Chapter: Saitama's training

Recap

Saitama had already began his training and beat some kind of flower man to help a granny. The granny rewards Saitama with one year's worth of candy.

Saitama explains about his training how he's been pushing his body to the limits day after day and that being thanked for his deeds gives him a sense of accomplishment and makes him happy.

At the 300th day of his training he feels a weird sting while doing his daily training of 100 push ups, he falls into the ground and huffs there for a while. Outside he realizes that when he runs he can already run at a ridiculous speed, he even saved a little kid and a dog from under the car crashing the hood of the car completely.

The stinging still continues and now he encounters a boxer who shadowboxed with the ceiling light pull cord of his room so much that he turned into a mysterious being with a distaster level of "God", though introduction says that his level is "Tiger".

Saitama goes straight into battle with him but gets punched in face instead. The enemy hits him with Pull cord rush and Saitama falls to the ground: a bad tooth fell out. I'm not sure if he pulls the rest of his teeth out, but at least he achieves his awesome look doing this.

Then he simply onepunches the Pull cord man dead.

Comments

It was nice to see once again some of Saitama's past, I really enjoy these chapters. What we still don't know yet is why while training Saitama encounters that weird stinging, but I believe that it may remain as a mystery. It may simply be that when he feels the stinging his body strengthens a lot. Maybe in the next extra chapter of Saitama's past we may see how his hair falls down.

Onepunch-Man Extra Chapter (20.5): 200 Yen

In this extra chapter we get to see 12 years old Saitama. At the beginning of the chapter he's just starting out as a Middle School student.

Everything looks pretty normal: school delinquents bully and beat younger kids, TV reports mysterious being having appeared in Z-city.. And Saitama looks his indifferent self, but only with hair and slightly younger. TV continues to report that the mysterious beings are in fact a relatively new phenomenom in this particular time.

Well, long story short this story consists of what makes Saitama eventually become a superhero. In this extra chapter he encounters delinquents I previously talked about, problems in school and especially one of those mysterious beings.

The title of 200 Yen is the amount of money that he had on him when delinquents robbed him and after that the mysterious being took the money from the delinquents. Saitama ended up going after the being and getting beated up by him. This is where he makes his resolve.

In the end we get a funny moment from the present where Saitama had beaten a living snow man, only to find as big as a mountain snow man to appear. Saitama gets nervous, but not because of the huge snow man, but because he forgot that today was the burnable trash day.

Onepunch-man 22: Rumored monster Kombu Infinity

Recap:

The chapter starts with couple of A-class heroes fighting against mysterious Kombu Infinity in Z-city. First goes Golden Ball who uses a slingshot with special ammunition: 5mm thick iron blades which are made from golden smart memory. Kombu Infinity repels it easily. Golden Ball is quickly defeated in the next moment.

Next is Rapier man, who looks like a gentleman and is actually a bit skilled. He deflects all the tentacles of Kombu and makes powerful thrust attack, which misses.

Rapier man realizes his situation and asks help from the organization. After that we get couple of moments from the hero headquarters, but nothing special there. We get back to the fight between Kombu and Rapier dude and we see that the gentleman didn't last long and died.

This monster is very bad news: he sees another prey coming.

It's Saitama, coming from grocery store, wearing a sweatsuit and looking bored as ever. Unfortunately we don't get to see the fight between Saitama and Kombu Infinity, but instead we get a report which says that the monster has apparently disappeared.

Also we get a scene where heroes who were dispatched to kill the monster wondering before a building which has a huge hole in it. They conclude that some kind of fight happened there.

And finally, we have a scene a Saitamas house where they are making food: fortunate for Saitama that he managed to actually get some Kombu. He didn't even kill the monster, only pulled off all his hair (/tentacles) :(.

Comments

It's great to have a new Onepunch-man chapter. Art is once again top notch and a true pleasure to read. It was a good chapter, but not one of the best: I would have like to see the Saitama vs. Kombu Infinity fight, but this works as well for increased humor value. Not much to say about this one, I enjoyed it and that's that.

Onepunch-Man Review, Surprisingly funny and deep

Onepunch man tells a story about Saitama, a superhero who trained so hard that he can end any fight with one punch. He also lost all his hair because of all that training.

Onepunch-man isn't about fighting.  My first impression was that this is just another crappy parody, but it's actually much more than that. In my opinion it's a parody of real life. It may be a bit subtle and ambiguous, but it tells a lot of about how people are in general. They continuously aim to be better, bigger, more rich and more powerful only to find that those things don't matter once you have acquired them. It's certainly a topic that I'm fond of.

Humour in this manga is obvious but nothing too exaggerated - it suits very well the general flow of Onepunch-man and the most important part of course is that it's actually very funny. Funny as hell, actually.

Art is very good and well designed. I find it oddly suitable for the main character to be the worst designed character in the whole series. It compliments well his utterly bored appearance. I love it. In contrast the enemies are very well drawn and are usually very quickly disposed, hence the Onepunch.

Characters are good in short: Saitama is an excellent and well designed main character that I'm happy to read of chapter after chapter, side characters are also very good, even though I'd expect a little bit more of comedic value from Genoss. Otherwise he's pretty awesome too. The villains deserve some praise without doubt: they've varied apart from each other very much and have most of the time entertained me very well.

The story part of this manga is it's weakest link, but that doesn't bother me too much. It was obviously intended as more of an artistic "test" of Yusuke Murata along with a very high comedic value, almost like a gag manga, but a lot better. In short, there really isn't any kind of story: there are a slight guideline which the characters follow like the hero organization in which they join at one part of the manga.

I could very well recommend this to people, but keep in mind that this won't surely be for everyone. You shouldn't expect for a decent storyline, but mostly excellent humor and if you've got tendency for it; philosophical thinking. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed Onepunch-Man.
