Toriko Chapter 232: Toriko Defeated!?

Comments:
Wow, I think that Toriko took the "award" for the best mainstream manga for this week.

It looks like that Setsunos and Zaus' fight is about to begin and without a doubt it will be interesting. We got some information about some mystery dark chef called Joa, who I believe was implied to being the leader of Neo. This is in my opinion pretty much amazing change of events, since it changes the balance of the series' "protagonist and antagonist group" setup. Previously there has been obviously good guys (IGO) and bad guys (Bishokukai), but now there's the third faction called Neo which without doubt will stir the soup up even more. The story seems to be getting more complex and I'm really loving that.

Then there is the obvious surprise which is Komatsu coming to the scene of Toriko and Starjun and sees that Toriko has been defeated. I'd like to believe that there's obviously something more to that, but in a way I'm happy to see that Toriko wasn't shielded by protagonist armor. There however may be some kind of deception that Toriko didn't get beat after all or something like that. It's very, very interesting choice from the author to not actually show the fight, but I'm sure there's good reason for that. I'd like to see Toriko evolve beyond how he currently is - his fighting style I'm not too fond of, even though it isn't bad at all. It just could be a bit more entertaining, but thankfully this series presents a lot more interesting characters so I'm not too concerned about that.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 232: Wriggling Shadows

-Setsuno has been wounded by 'traitors' sided with neo. Her face looks scary as hell and she frees herself destroying Kuribous hand in process.

-However it was not his hand which got destroyed but gimmick frypan.

-Setsuno starts telling that there are 5 cooking fest champions, Zaus, Yuda, Buranchi and her, but there's actually one more. She's talking about the dark chef Joa, who was banned from the world of cooking.

-Zaus surprisingly attacks Chiyo behind him piercing through her with his sword. He then uses Calorie gui, apparently sucking Chiyo out of energy.

-It seems that face-off between Setsuno and Zaus is about to begin.

-Fighting is going on and we are shown several people doing their stuff.

-Then we see some of Komatsu, who arrives to where Toriko and Starjun are and sees that Toriko has been defeated.

Toriko Chapter 231: Zebra Unleashed!

Comments:
It's great to see Zebra once again. I've always been very fond of his abilities, which in my opinion are being used in sp imaginative manner that it actually manages to amuse me quite much.

The Four Heavenly Kings have all had great powerups, Sani literally has the power to basically eat anything around him and we still haven't even seen what's up with Coco and Toriko. At this point it looks like Zebra doesn't have any big shot to fight against, I actually thought that the Nitros would present some sort of challenge to him but I was terribly wrong. It seems that the Nitros are nothing short of fodder to him at this point.

There is so much for the author to go through at this moment: there's Mansam + Shigematsu, Setsunos fights, Toriko vs Starjun, Coco vs. the guy I don't remember at this point (I do remember that they jumped into the black hole) and most likely a lot more that I can't recall at this time. I'll be interested in seeing the continuation for this arc.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 231: Zebra Counterattacks!

-People are watching the chef's holy land, coookinh island which has turned into a sea of flames. They are wondering how they got there and quickly come to conclusion that it was Zebra who "shot" them there.

-The weird looking scum beast handler and another guy try to attack Zebra, but they get countered by Voice breath and beat punch.

-He then sets his eyes towards the Nitros. Zebra quickly beats one of them with martial arts, voice burst, sound knuckle and Onsoku idou (="Speed of sound movement"). He then uses sound bazooka, which shakes entire arena.

-Setsuno and Chiyo are fighting: Setsuna has lowered the 'pressure' around Chiyo, making lack of air around her. Setsuno soon gets grabbed by some giant guy. Another one uses Shokujutsu "Calogie Gui" on her and finally cooking king Zaus hits her with Ittou Rinne Oroshi.

-Setsuno is understandably enraged now.

Toriko Chapter 230: Zebra On The Move

Comments:
Pretty much feels like that this week was pretty weak in chapter wise in basically every manga. One Piece felt really short, Naruto is on hiatus, Bleach is pretty much crap anyways and now Toriko offered somewhat uninteresting build-up chapter.

Pointers:
So Elg vs. Branchi got its final moments with Elg showing his 'true' face, which was highlighted as being very ugly. The whole point of that may have seemed very pointless, but the reason for that was to bring out Branchis great nature of symphatizing with his enemy. That was in my opinion pretty good moment and displays good eye for such things from the author.

Then we get something from the battlefield: Yuda rises up and then things start to shift somewhere else: at the IGO Neos plans are starting to move and the ugly guy whose name I now don't remember apparently killed some chefs who were holding a meeting there. Then we see Mansam getting stabbed by a giant snake controlled by Shigematsu, IGO's (former I presume) vice president, who apparently has turned to Neo. On the surface these things don't look like much, but in my opinion bring some depth to this manga. In One Piece I love how the things are moving on the background and situation constantly changes around the world and now I'm seeing similar trend going on in Toriko. First we had basically two major organizations, IGO being regarded as somewhat good and Bishokukai clearly bad - Neo is still pretty much mystery at this point but it's very clear that Neo is going to stir things up.

The final, major build up of this chapter is Zebra finally getting on the field. His entrance didn't lack any hype: he took out instantly probably hundreds of scum beasts who themselves were advertised as being very strong. I'm looking forward to see who he's going up against and especially how he has evolved skillwise.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 230: Betrayal!

-After receiving so many shocks Elg's regenration has stopped and his real, ugly face has surfaced.

-Branchi somewhat comforts him saying that he's not ugly and continues that in his village there are Daruma, Kappa and Oni who are real monsters. Then it seems that Elg dies.

-On the next page we hear words Ishoku Dougen - Sosei giri, meaning that medicine and food have the same origin / resurrection cut. It's Yuda who rises up and is pretty angry to Bishokukai.

-In IGO headquarters people there are in panic thinking that they should send people over. However it seems that someone talking to Shige has betrayed IGO and killed all the chefs in the meeting.

-Then we finally see some of Mansam, who destroys one GT robo with Wanted punch. He then is is suddenly pierced with a spike coming out of a huge snakes mouth. It's Shigematsu, vice president of IGO riding that particular snake.

-People in the battle look upwards and see a huge amount of scum beasts coming down. We are also introduced to the concept of Food pressure, which is similar to Food honor, it pretty much tries to control food with sheer force.

-Suddenly all of those monsters drop down and we see a huge monster with a scythe representing Zebra. "Shioto"

Toriko Chapter 229: Tengu Branchi Is Awesome

Comments:
Well, a decent chapter in my opinion this week. Last week I was wondering how would it be possible for Branchi to defeat an immortal being, except for containing him in some way which would make Elg unable to do anything.

The conclusion was a bit better than I expected, but felt really a bit forced. It's great that the author decided to bring an immortal character into play, but immortality in itself is a bit hard concept in my opinion in this kind of mangas since it should be used very sparingly. I have to be honest that I really don't get it how it would be possible for something to be electrically charged in such a way that it would keep 'hitting' the target continuously, but in any case, I'll leave it up to the freedom of the series. In any case it would be pretty much useless to argue about how stuff works in a manga which is only limited by imagination.

The fight didn't leave up to expectations except that I ended up liking Tengu Branchi pretty much and I hope that we'll be seeing him more after this arc. Hopefully he will join Toriko, Komatsu and others when they head out to the gourmet world. I have always somewhat fancied electricity/lightning as power in series and I think that Tengu Branchi is very well designed, enjoyable character.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 229: VS Immortality

-Branchi vs. Immortal Elg continues.

-Branchi concludes that Elgs regenerative ability is "Nou-darake", which literally means "full of brains"

-It's a gene which is located in the head of an organism called planarian. Then we get a lot of explaining about Branchis techinque and some deductions about Elg wounding his cheek. No wonder Toriko needs some time to get translated.4

-Elg then proceeds to attack with all of his bodies, but Branchi rises up, locks on to all bodies and uses Heiretsu, "Eleki Cutter", turning electricity into sharp blades. He then continues with Fuurai Kamaitachi.

-However, Elgs immortal body is constantly adapting and it seems he's unshaken by Branchis attacks. He then starts kicking Branchi continuously until Buranchi is lying on the ground.

-Tengu Branchi does indeed have a trump card - he explains that his body is like a power plant which can convert all energy from the outside into electricity.

-He has accumulated huge amounts of electricity, which allows him to use Ougy Chokuretsu Daitai Dengeki which is essentially a huge bolt of lightning.

-Elg can regenerate as much as he wants, but that attacks electrically charged him so even if his cells rot and regenerate back he is going to keep getting hit by that attack forever.

Toriko Chapter 228: Immortal, Ageless Elg

Comments:
Pretty good chapter. Branchi is in my opinion getting surprisingly much attention in the manga, so I'm guessing that the author has planned some bigger role for him rather than just another chef fightning in this arc. His powers are without a doubt pretty cool, even though I've seen plenty of lightning abilities in several mangas and animes I'm certain that the author will be able to create something amazing with Branchi. I do think that he's as a character pretty good so it's in no way a bad thing for him to get some screen time.

Ageless Elg at this point seems to be pretty much impossible to defeat. I myself was thinking that if Branchi would slice him in half from where he is connected (fused) to the Herak Horse, maybe then would he be unable to regenerate, but Branchi did things a bit better and sliced him in thousands of small bits. Even then he regenerated into hundreds of bodies, but now I can't help but to wonder can he just multiply himself as much as he wants and what will possibly happen to the all the excess bodies of him? What a weird situation.

I am though excited to see what will be the outcome of this fight and how it is even possible to destroy Elg. I'd think that if he can't be killed then the only way would be to contain him in some way that he can't get out of there.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 228:

-Branch chief Elg is standing before Branchi, who's asking what the hell is he.

-Branchi hits him with lightning/electricity once more, turns around and we see Elg back up again.

-We get an explanation of Buranchis power, every cell in his body becomes like an 'amplifier circuits' for electricity. The electric potential difference has an average of 100 million volts and the amount of electric current that he releases is actually over 100 00 amperes.

-Elg should be dead after Buranchis Eleki Chop, but he still rises up and attacks Branchi.

-Elg then introduces himself as the eldest chef, "ageless Elg". He says that his body does not age and therefore will not die, he is immortal.

-Elg fused with a legendary mythical beast that lives in Gourmet World, the Horse King "Heraku", which is an ageless and immortal horse.

-Buranchi then generates himself inazuma houchou which means Lightning Kitchen Knife. He then smashes Elg into pieces, but Elg still manages to regenerate.

-Ageless Elg starts speaking once again and he says that he has lived for around 200 years, then we see that he actually regenerated all of the bits in which he was cut in into a complete version of him.

-Branchi is now in trouble, his batteries are depleted and he gets kicked by Herak kick.

-Toriko will be on break next week (shit).

Toriko Chapter 227: Great Way Of Disposing A Bad Villain

Comments:
A great chapter, I'm really liking Toriko right now. Honestly I was expecting both Tommyrod and Sani being left alive, but thankfully the author actually has some balls to do such things which don't really sugar coat anything. I was pleased to seeing Tommyrod getting eaten by the Satan Hair since he was one of the worst villains in the series and I'm sure that the author has recognized that too. So in that way Tommyrod getting eaten and having nothing being left of him was a perfect way to dispose of him.

I think that we seeing Zebra after so many chapters is a message for the readers to wait for him to enter the battlefield. It's pretty much always good to see him doing his stuff which is basically about decimating everything, not to mention possible new skills and set of abilities that we'll be sure to be shown.

We also got a name for the secret organization which is gathering at the room, Neo.  Their aim is still pretty unclear, but it's clear that Neo is going to be somewhat a major player and is going to complicate the story of Toriko to some extent. I think it's somewhat good decision, since Toriko has been pretty much straightforward series which in some way has been pretty good decision, but I've missed the complexity which is present in the background of ie. One Piece constantly.

Aaand as expected Zaus indeed was alive, it would have been way too lame way for him to die there without anyone actually seeing anything. It seems that they are going to go after Setsuno and I'm sure that she's not going to have it easy for the chapters to come. At the end of the chapter the fat, beardy person of Neo is mentioning someone called Joa, I believe that him mentioning someone like that means basically that he's going to be somewhat major player in things to come.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 227: Outcome of the Duel!!!

-Sani vs. Tommyrods final clash is about to begin, Tommyrod is soon able to move.

-The arm that was strangling Sani was quickly eaten by the Satan Hair.

-The battle finally begins, Tommyrod is getting pierced by Sanis hair continuously, but Tommyrod manages to get a series of attacks in.

-The fight is however shortlived, Sani says farewell to him and engulfs him inside the Satan Hair leaving nothing in its wake. Sous Chef Tommyrod has died.

-Zebra is still sitting (waiting eagerly!) at the audience doing his sound stuff, helping the small fodder.

-The secret organization gathering at the room gets a name: The new food Utopia, Neo, who have infiltrated their members inside every major company of the world.

-Zaus is expectedly revealed to being alive and belonging to this organization.

-Someone called "Joa" is heading to the battlefield right now.

Toriko Chapter 226: Generic vs. Generic, But Not Too Shabby

Comments:
Toriko brings every week at least decent action and so was this week. It wasn't anything spectacular, but a good chapter nonetheless. Even though Sanis ability is very generic and so it doesn't interest me that much I have to say that the Satan Hair "upgrade" was an interesting one. What we've seen about it it feels pretty much overpowered in my opinion and I'm not even including Sani controlling the hairs that were cut off him.

This fight could be described as Generic (Sani) vs. Generic (Tommyrod), Tommyrod himself is one of my least favorite villains in the series and he doesn't really have anything to offer at this point. I'm pretty much happy that this fight will reach conclusion in the next chapter, the pace of these fights lasting for only couple of chapters while they include a lot of action is very good. In example Lugh vs. Takeda fight lasted pretty much double the amount of chapters while offering several times less to the readers.

Sani getting this sort of upgrade I think is a premonition that the other Heavenly Kings almost for sure have made similar kind of power upgrades, which I will be waiting for eagerly. The author has managed to make Torikos characters get upgrades in a very good manner so that I haven't really felt that they were too cheap and poorly designed so I'm waiting for good things to come in the next chapters..

Recap of Toriko 226: Sani vs. Tommyrod

-Tommyrod is about to fight against Sani by himself, he destroys the remaining insects nearby.

-Sani almost instantly and cuts off Tommyrods left hand

-Tommyrod recaps the "appetite" which was a physical manifestation of the Gourmet Cells energy and that it was the impetus to awaken something that had been lying dormant. In Sanis case it's the Devil, or Satan Hair.

-Sani keeps attacking, but Tommyrod is constantly dodging

-We get an explanation how Tommyrod has "Compound Eyes" similar to many flying insects, meaning that they have in fact thousands of "eyes", Tommyrod however has an one million of them.

-So Tommyrod is effectively dodging Sanis Satan hair and finally Sani has to rescind it since he's not used to it yet.

-Sani tries to tangle Tommyrod with Hair lock, but it gets countered by Tommyrods Bomb egg storm.

-Sani uses Hair spit, which gets deflected by Wing Shield.

-Suddenly Tommyrods severed left arm begins strangling him, the hand is alive by itself

-Tommyrod gets couple of good hits and finally pierces Sani with his arm, but quickly realizes that he can't move at all because of Sanis Hair Marionette.

-Sani started using the Satan Hair once again and Tommyrod is trapped. It's revealed that it was not Satan Hair in which Sani was not used to but the previously cut hair.

-In next chapter Sani vs. Tommyrod will be concluded.

Toriko Chapter 225: Sanis Satan Hair

Comments:
A pretty good Toriko chapter, it seems that the author is taking sort of a new approach to this whole "war" that is going on by not focusing on one character at a time, but focusing one character one chapter at a time. I think that it brings us some variation and avoids the sense of boredom of watching the same characters week after week. It's still a bit too early to say how it will turn out, but in my opinion this kind of way of doing things might as well work out.

This essentially means that there's no way of knowing who is going to be in the spotlight in the next weeks chapter.

As for the chapter itself it was pretty good, the author went as usually a bit overboard with the Satan Hair's capability, but I found it amusing nonetheless. It was indeed a great skill which seemed to turn the tables pretty quickly. I honestly though that the huge clawed bug would be a bit of a problem for him, but instead that he just devoured it instantly. It seems that that kind of power doesn't come without some problems, since Sani was about to lose his consciousness while doing it.

It wonder if we'll get to see either Zebra or Mansam next week. There's so much stuff going on that it's hard to keep books who's doing what, but that's thankfully the authors job to decide what's best for us.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 225: Awakening

-Tommyrod vs. Sani

-Sani destroys all of the level 80 bugs surrounding him with a Super Fry Gaeshi, his learned intuition helps him a lot to attack their vital spots precisely

-Tommyrod spawns a Sticky beast bug with level 90, but its adhesive gas gets countered by Sani making a tornado with his hair

-Tommyrods huge bug with huge claws however cuts some of Sanis hair, for Sani it feels like getting pulled his teeth out without anesthetic.

-Sani uses his newly acquired skill, Satan Hair, which with the help of Gourmet Cells makes his strands have Appetite, which are able to devour enemies.

-Sanis Satan Hair eats the huge claw bug instantly and then Tommyrod decides to fight against Sani by himself.

Toriko Chapter 224: Self-evidence by Coco

Comments:
I nowadays have such a high expectations regarding Toriko so it was destined to disappoint at some point and that point was this week. There really wasn't any progress, except that Grinpatch made the huge hole, which was impressive, Coco jumped with him in there and Sani was being disgusted by Tommyrod. What a great matchup btw.

Coco also mentioned some poison which would be even dangerous to him: this was an obvious foreshadowing that he will have to resort to this power. I think that all the heavenly kings will at least go near death in these fights with the bishokukai.

It would seem that the author wanted to give Komatsu a pet like all the heavenly kings have their own: the wall penguin is an excellent choice for him.

This chapters theme mostly seemed to be Coco explaining Komatsu how the chefs are very important in the gourmet age, but I honestly though that was somewhat self explanatory. Gotta wait for next week, then there should be a lot of things to happen.

Recap of Toriko Chapter 224: The World's Hope

-Battle between Grinpatch and Coco, Coco realizes that his poison isn't really working.

-Grinpatch inhales and uses breath missile making a huge hole to the ground.

-Komatsu wonders why the Bishokukai is going so far to capture chefs, Coco explains to him that the most valuable people in gourmet age are chefs. They are the World's treasures.

-Coco grabs Grinpatch and jumps with him in to the hole that Grinpatch made with his breath missile.

-Meanwhile Sani is fighting with Tommyrod.

-Tommyrod has spawned a lot of bugs including Wicked Dung Fly (Jya Guso Bae) capture level 82

-The one that cut Sanis hair was Tommyrods Giant Parasite, Capture Level 105.

Toriko Chapter 223: Nitro Rampage etc

Comments:
First chapter in a while that didn't have me going, don't know why. We got some Nitro rampage that I expected since seeing it coming next week, but what really disappointed me was in example Zaragiras design: he looks a lot like some cheap Dragonball Z antagonist or something like that. A bit forced character design if I may say. Also Livebearer getting saved in such a cheap manner also disappointed me a bit: it would have certainly been an fitting end for him to be severed after all.

The idea of the scum beasts using food honor is definitely an interesting consept: I wonder how they have learned it :P They will undoubtly be some ferocious enemies, but I'm wondering who will fight against them.

Chiru being a woman was also revealed in this chapter, but unlike some of the characters I didn't think it was anything special: in fact I managed to forget already who she was and had to go check from Toriko wiki.

Recap of Toriko 223: Targeted Chefs!!

-Nitro is set free

-Nitro instantly Yuda either killing him or making him unconscious.

-It then attacks another chef and is seen having wings: something that we haven't seen before.

-Livebearer attacks Nitro with "Brain Cut" making only his blades go dull.

-Livebearer then gets hit by Nitro and is cut in half.

-Couple of Saiseya however are awake: they use Nikkou Botaru to flash the Nitros eyes and then using Tai Nori (Bdoy Glue) and Doctor Aloe to put Livebearer in one piece once again.

-Powerful Scum Beasts have also appeared that can even use food honor.

-We are introduced to Bishokukai Food Management Office Chief Zaragira who throws chinese emperor inside a cage beast.

-After that Bishokukai Talent Scout Gur is also introduced.

-Chiru finally reveals her face revealing also that she is in fact a girl unlike people thought.

-We see Komatsu getting saved by the flying penguin, Yunyun.

-Coco vs Grinpatch is going on and Coco is seen being a bit hurt: Grinpatch is also seen "smoking" and having got some damage even though he's saying that he wants to eat more of Cocos poison

Toriko 222: Setsunos Air Pressure and Bishokukais Nitro

Comments:

Once again incredible Toriko Chapter which leaves both Naruto and Bleach easily behind it this weekt. As I last week suspected the showcase of Setsuno's ability will be amazing and it indeed was. Her just making everything explode and monsters just getting ripped of their flesh just being near her was simply incredible ability. The match of Setsuno vs. Chiyo makes me however wonder is it possible for her to die at this point. I'd imagine that she is stronger than Chiyo but anything can happen, especially now after Bishokukai's trump card is revealed.

Oh yes, the trump card. Perhaps one of Toriko's biggest mysteries is this creature "Nitro" of which we really don't know much about. I believe that Bishokukai have researched them pretty much without us knowing of which the GT-robo design could be a sign of, but it still makes me wonder whether they plan to just make it go wild at the battle or if they actually can control it in some way. I think that Mansam vs. Nitro is plausible match up.

As for the last pointer of this chapter is the appearance of the third organization which still stays at shadows. Couple of chefs are included in that particular group at least, but their aim trivials me: bishokukai is obviously aiming for the chefs, but what are they going to do? Also the way them speaking about Bishokukai's trump card may be hint that they may have a spy inside Bishokukai.

Recap of Toriko 222: A Catastrophic Joker Card

-Setsuno is about to make her move, she tells everyone to stay back while the monsters are surrounding her

-One of the monsters starts belittling Setsunon and his head simply explodes

-One of the cooks explains that National Treasure Setsuno is using Air Pressure, she uses high pressure to cook ingredients in an instant.

-Setsuno attacks with Dai Atsuryoku Name (= High pressure cooker) and kills dozens of monsters in single hit

-Now Setsuno is using some kind of skill to rip the monsters of everything else except their bones. Amazing.

-Bishokukai Chiyo appears saying that if it wouldn't be for Setsuno she'd be the national treasure

-Chiyo attacks and Setsuno blocks her knife with bare hands!

-Ume discovers that there's a third side to this battle and they are conversing behind a closed door. They talk about Bishokukai's trump card and when to intervene.

-Outside, Yuda is watching shocked: Bishokukai has brought their trump card which is a Nitro!

Toriko Episode 93: Nitro Cherries is picked up

 Comments:

Episode 93 was definitely a good one: The fight with Hannya panda was interesting as well as the continuing concentration game. The best thing however is that it's been so long time since I've actually read this Livebearer arc so I can't even remember what the conclusion is in this game.

There was a definitely funny scene where Komatsu had prepared the food for Toriko and began to explain about the mayonnaise but Toriko had already eaten all the food while Komatsu was talking.

Next episode will definitely be a good once since the game should be nearing its end. It's still great to see that the animators manage to keep up the good pace of the Toriko manga that is in my opinion one of its best sides. There's really no episodes / chapters which drag on uselessly.

Recap of Toriko Episode 93: Eat or be Eaten: Toriko VS the Hannya Panda

-Toriko and his group are searching for Meteor Garlic and are battling for it against boss of the undergoind cooking world Livebearer in a game of Gourmet Tasting

-Coco picked up Joker ingredient card: Hannya Panda which Toriko is about to fight now

-Toriko block Hannya Pandas attack with Fork shield and counters with a knife and leg fork: Hannya Panda dodges with a backflip.

-Toriko attacks with a 18 Ren Kugi Punch and Hannya Panda almost goes down, but instead of that it enrages now.

-Toriko uses intuition and dodges all of the monsters attacks. He then uses 36 Ren Twin Kugi Punch which defeats the Hannya panda.

-Komatsu steams the panda and makes summer rolls.

-Situation for Toriko's team still looks very bad. Livebearer thinks that he definitely can't lose the game anymore.

-Coco desides to pick Dynamidragonfly and Toriko eats it.

-Then Coco picks Troll cheese for Toriko to eat, which he finishes. The point difference is still too great.

-Finally Joker ingredient Nitro Cherries is picked up by Coco: ingredient which will explode with slightest tremor.

Toriko 221: Showcase of everything

Comments

Amazing chapter once again. I expected for us to see Toriko vs. Starjun fight this week, but instead we got more of the main battlefield clashing and I have to say that I'm not disappointed at all. Author has managed to make most of the characters interesting and intriguing to read about, this chapter was one of the kinds which I didn't even realize that I had already read almost 20 pages of it. It felt like it ended in an instant.

The best part of chapter 221 was obviously the ending. Cliffhanger which says that in the next chapter 222 Legendary Setsuno is going to show her superpowers? Yes please. However I wonder how the disappearance of Zaus is going to link to all this: it may be that we may discover at some point something unpleasant regarding to that..

Recap and addtional comments

Toriko chapter 221 begins with Mansam having his own kind of fun destroying the GT robos, he uses Frypan Sandwich on one of them. He then starts remembering his time as young bandit and how the president Ichiryuu "released" his dormant powers with knocking.
Mansam is definitely showing his best sides in this fight, previously I though him being a definite filler character, but this has changed my opinion to the better.

He destroys one more with Wanted punch and groups of GT robos are coming onto him.

Meanwhile IGO beast tamer Rin is fighting against groups of monsters with King Sleep Fragrance which is extracted from King Sloth that sleeps 364 days and 23 hours a year. There's three bishokukai's who are not affected by the sleeping fragrance:

6th Branch / Mystery man Zaiper, Omnivorous Bei and Wild Man Dohsa.

Rin pulls out her Fragrance swords for this fight.

At the sime time differenct chefs are showing their fighitng skills, we are shown Yuda showing his Bannou Yakutou (All-purpose medicine blade) and using 1 milli zengiri skill which makes enemies in to complete fodder.
Yuda seems a bit generic character, but is still awesome enough.

Also Livebearer is enjoying himself using "doping cooking".

Tengu Branchi's skills are shown as electiricity manipulating, which explains he putting "batteries" inside to recharge himself. He uses Heiretsu "Eleki Punch" to kill group of monsters.

Then suddenly 1st branch chef Elg comes to the scene to oppose Branchi; whom Branchi punches and it seems very effective.
Yeah it's pretty obvious that this isn't everything that Elg has to offer: even though it looks that Branchi's hit was very effective Elg will most likely show us his special skills which are somehow linked to him appearing "weak"

Then we are introduced to some of the new Bishokukais as well as Barrygamon who we have seen before: Here we have Branch chief's Bogeyuz, Jerryboy, Cedre and Barrygamon.

Also Sommelier Limon and 2nd Branch chief Yuu are going to be fighting for now on. Limon describes herself as sommelier of death and that she will provide the ultimate mode of death for them.

At the end of the chapter Zonge-sama is doing his stupid crap until suddenly a golem attacks him, which gets quickly destroyed by Setsuno who wonders whether she should end this in an instant...

Toriko 221 Spoiler: Setsuno makes her move

Update: Toriko 221 Chapter comments and recap here!

Comments:

It seems we are not getting Toriko vs. Starjun this week, but I have to be honest and say that it doesn't matter. There's still so much amazing stuff happening that it's easy to wait for that.

We are also getting a small (1-2pages?) flashback on Mansam, it must be the one page with IGO's President Ichiryuu. However the person in the flashback looks more like Ichiryuu than Mansam so it's a bit weird.

Guess I'll have to wait for proper translation or even then proper chapter to be released.

Recap

Mansam versus GT robo's, as we saw last chapter Mansam was practically destroying them.

At the source it was said that this "flashback" is of Mansam, but the punk hair person in it looks more like Ichiryuu than Mansam.

Yuda's one millimeter long knife is actually two meters long, Livebearer is having his own kind of fun with the enemies.

It seems that Branchi gets his own matchup in this chapter, he's going to fight against Bishokukai Brand Chef Elg.

Some more Bishokukais here, I recognize at least Barrygamon there behind.

We also get some Zonge sama ;)

Can't wait to see Bishokukai Sommelier Lion in action.

Aaand at the end of the chapter we have Setsuno making her move destroying one of the Bishokukai golems, I think she's going to be against Chiyo.

Toriko 220: Torikos amazing growth

Recap and Comments ofToriko Gourmet 220: Wild Battle

Setsuno is walking in the middle of everything looking at Zaus' blood mark on the ground.
It's possible that there's some kind of conspiracy going on, since he was holding the spot of the greatest chef - this would be just too anticlimatic for him to just die without basically nothing happenin?

The chefs are preparing for the fight and someone's muscular leg is shown behind a corner.
It's reasonable to think that it's someone from bishokukai going to ambush the chefs, his target being this white haired chef.

Toriko versus Starjun battle continues. Toriko decides to show Starjun how much he has grown, he starts with 50 Ren Kugi punch and continues with another 50 Ren Kugi punch with other hand.
It's great to see that Toriko doesn't have any "recoil" in these hit, I mean, he can obviously use these punches as many as he wants.

Starjun gets drilled inside the stadium and Toriko follows him through the hole.
This was pretty amazing :)

Then Toriko uses 50 + 50 = 100 Ren Twin Kugi Punch which makes Starjun burst out of the Stadium.
Yeah! This one is a huge bomb.

While Starjun is in the air Toriko attacks with Leg Boomerang and then with Cannon Fork So that both attacks hit simultaneously.
I think it's very good thing that Torikos weapon arsenal is expanding constantly. The nature of his attacks makes it essentially possible for him to make any kinds of attacks. These two attacks were pretty cool.

For finisher Toriko hits Starjun with 50 Ren Kugi Punch in to the head which makes Starjun fly at nearby mountain.

Starjun is still standing, having his clothes however ripped off and getting his Shiva Helmet broken.

The chapter's end truly makes it seem that the true fight has yet to begin. Starjun's "stand" behind him looks like a one eyed devil.
It seems that the build up for this fight has finally been done and what a great build up it was. I liked Starjun getting seriously drilled through that stadium and Toriko following him. Mansam at the end of the chapter was pretty cool, he had destroyed several GT Robos and said that he might not be able to hold himself, yeah.

As for Predictions? Well it's obvious, Zaus is with Bishokukai, Toriko vs Starjun, it's a close battle, but Starjun will escape at the last moment.
