Beck didn't impress at the beginning - it seemed a little boring. At the end of the series, however, I found it impossible not to love Beck. Now I'm trying my best to find out why, even though it is the pursuit of objectivity in this case.
Beck is different from a number of anime series being quite close to a normal life, and manages to be so good perhaps because this allows the viewer to get close to the feeling that it tries to eminate. Beck is about a young boy named Yukio Tanaka, who is not in any way special. Yukio goes to school, listens to mass produced pop idol and maybe feels a little anxious. One day, Yukio encounters a surprising turn of events, when he runs into a strange-looking dog at the street. Later Yukio finds out dog's name, Beck, and the dog owner's identity. He is Minami Ryuusuke, a guitarist couple of years older than Yukio. Behavíng cool and speaking English fluently Ryuusuke impresses Yukio, and a series of incidents later, the boys end up playing together. A band called Beck starts, and goes to seek public acclaim.The road to glory and fame is long, and rocky, and the journey will show us stage performances in addition to the main characters crooked relationships.
In Beck life is not fluffy and easy, and the problems do not have simple solutions. High school relationships with the opposite sex are watched from many perspectives. Also, bullying plays a small role: Yukio gets harassed repeatedly, but he soon finds out that maybe he isn't alone.. One good thing about Beck is that things can not be solved quickly and easily. In many cases, Yukio is driven almost to despair. In Beck people do not easily give in and also engage the viewer part of the characters' internal energy.
A special case is a series of music, which I might as well dedicate an entire article on. The Beat Crusaders Hit in the USA is a good opener, even though engrish is a bit obvious. The final theme is more straightforward Meister My World Down requires a bit of getting used to, but hits strongly the first few times when it opens to the listener.
Voice Actors know what to do, and sound natural. In general, the sleek sound also continues to support a series of musical sequences. Along with the great songwriting and successful control of the atmosphere is at its best.
Beck visual implementation may not be quite as praised than sound side. Borrowed from the manga its style works well, and the 3D elements blend in to its surroundings, but the budget solutions are seen from time to time. Especially towards the end of a series of illustrations are missing details for simpler scenes. Animation periods will some times be played repeatedly. Well-chosen camera angles and a good cut helps the situation.
Beck is good. There are no actual fillers, but on the other hand there is not much of a plot at all - Beck tells the stories of ordinary life, which has no clear beginning or end. The situation, however, and the characters evolve constantly, and that is where a significant part of Beck's charm is.
